Located just a 7-minute walk from JR Takayama Station, Yagura is a beloved local restaurant specializing in Hida wagyu beef and traditional Japanese cuisine. Nestled in the historic townscape of Takayama, this long-established restaurant has been a favorite among locals and visitors for over 40 years.

The highlight of the menu is premium Hida wagyu beef, offered in a range of styles such as Japanese-style steak, shabu-shabu, and sukiyaki. Each dish is carefully prepared to enhance the meat’s natural flavor—highlighting its tenderness and rich umami taste.

Specializing in Hida Wagyu Beef

This Takayama restaurant proudly features only top-grade A4–A5 ranked Hida beef, celebrated for its marbling and rich flavor. Each wagyu beef cut is thoughtfully selected to suit the cooking style—whether it’s a seared Japanese-style steak, delicate shabu-shabu, or home-style taste of sukiyaki—ensuring the perfect balance of texture and taste in every dish.

Yagura’s signature steak is grilled over high heat with a house-made sauce, following a traditional technique of gently removing excess fat to highlight the natural umami of the meat. Seasoning is kept simple and refined to let the natural quality of the Hida beef take center stage. In addition, vegetables and mountain herbs are locally sourced from the Hida region, too.
