A message from the Chef
We’ve been loved by locals and visitors of Kyoto since it was first established (my father was the original owner-chef). And now we now have the pleasure of welcoming customers from all over Japan and the world who tell us, “When I return to Kyoto, I will stop by again.”
We try to offer only the best seasonal dishes and delicacies while welcoming everyone with our ‘omotenashi’. We hope that when our customers come to visit, it is a place that they can relax and unwind comfortably, while enjoying our kaiseki cuisine.

10 Course Menu Traditional Kyoto Kaiseki(8,500 yen / per person)
To offer the freshest seasonal ingredients, there is no set menu as it will change daily. The number of dishes and types of dishes offered will remain the same.
Hassun (Small Dish Appetizer) : Selection of seasonal dishes
Tsukuri (Sashimi Assortment) : Chef Tanaka visits Kyoto’s Central Wholesale Market every morning to select the freshest seasonal fish to serve
Mushimoni (Steamed Dish) : A warm, gentle steamed dish to warm up your body before enjoying a drink.
Yakimono (Grilled Dish) : A plate showcasing seasonal vegetables or fish. You’ll also be able to taste Kyoto’s famous namafu – a traditional delicacy made of wheat gluten.
Tempura (Fried Dish) : A selection of 4~5 tempura pieces, featuring seasonal fish, vegetables, namafu, and more. Chef Tanaka recommends enjoying this dish with just salt, to ensure that you can savor the umami of each ingredient.
Sunomono (Vinegar-based Dish) : A refreshing vinegar-based fish or vegetable dish to refresh your palate after sampling the tempura dish.
Rice & Miso Soup : Freshly cooked rice, tsukemono, and miso soup. Enjoy it along side Shoshin-an’s famous “Chirimen Sansho”.
Chirimen Sansho (Rice Topping) : Customers from all over Japan specially order Shoshin-an’s famous “Chirimen Sansho” so that they can enjoy it at home, too. “Chirimen Sansho” is a savory topping that is often enjoyed with rice. It is well-seasoned tiny jako fish that has a hint of sansho (Japanese pepper).
