A message from the Chef
At our restaurant, tucked away in a quiet alley of Gion, I prepare each dish with care to reflect Kyoto’s changing seasons. What I value most is creating a calm and gentle time where even first-time guests can relax and feel at ease.
We have always cherished the connections we build with our guests, and that spirit will never change. As you enjoy the aroma of dashi, the refinement of each dish, and the distinctive atmosphere of Gion, I hope you will experience a truly special moment during your time in Kyoto.

Ingredients & Dining Philosophy
The cuisine at Gion Tsujiya focuses on seasonal Kyoto ingredients, with particular care given to drawing out the depth and aroma of dashi, a traditional Japanese broth made from kelp and dried fish that forms the foundation of Japanese cuisine. From the opening dish to soups and grilled courses, each dish expresses the delicacy of traditional Kyoto kaiseki.
The renovated machiya interior blends the warmth of natural wood with soft lighting, creating a space that feels removed from the lively Gion atmosphere. Rather than relying on elaborate presentation, the restaurant embraces a refined simplicity that allows both the food and the guest’s time to take center stage. Gion Tsujiya offers a calm and thoughtful kaiseki dining experience for travelers who wish to experience Kyoto not as visitors, but as part of its local life.
